Who Is “To Accomplish The Impossible” Star Nick Lavery? Meet The Retired Army and Hear Him Discuss His Challenges

Nick lost his lower limbs in Afghanistan in 2012–2013 after being deployed there. During a “insider attack,” he was struck four times in the right leg while engaged in combat with a PKM machine gun from only 15 feet away.

His bravery allowed the unit to save everyone on board and secure the VSP for a medical evacuation without suffering any more casualties. His courageous actions and bravery in the face of peril inspired the VSP members to complete the mission and helped to save his comrades’ lives.

The United States Army, the Special Operations Joint Task Force Afghanistan, the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan, and himself are all praised for his actions, which uphold the highest standards of military bravery.

Who Is “To Accomplish The Impossible” Star Nick Lavery?

Former Special Forces weapons sergeant Nick Lavery has completed the Network Development and Unconventional Warfare Operational Design programs. He is a licensed airborne and combat diver.

He has Special Operations Combatives (SOCP) and Modern Army Combatives (MACP) instructor qualifications.

The Combat Diver Qualification training, the SOCP Instructor course, and the Special Forces Warrant Officer Technical and Tactical Certification training have all been successfully completed by Nick, the sole amputee in military history.

Nick has received many awards, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Special Operations Command Excalibur Award, the OSS Society Peter Ortiz Award, three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, a Bronze Star with a “V” for valor, and two Meritorious Service Medals.

Army Life of Nicky Lavery

Nick is an active duty Special Forces soldier with the US Army. The Special Forces, commonly known as the Green Berets, perform important duties such unconventional warfare, direct action, counterinsurgency, and special reconnaissance.

Nick lost his leg in Afghanistan on his second combat deployment in 2013, when his Detachment was the victim of an insider attack.

He had a year’s worth of treatments, started his recovery at Walter Reed National Medical Center, and then he was able to re-join his squadron. Instead of opting for a military medical retirement, Nick set his eyes on returning to active duty.

In 2015, Nick returned to his Detachment after finishing a demanding evaluation to determine his operational ability. After that, he was ordered back to Afghanistan to engage in full-spectrum combat operations.

The first Green Beret to recover from an above-the-knee amputation is Nick. He shouldn’t be alive. Doctors are baffled as to how he managed to survive outside of surgery for more than two hours with a severed femoral artery.

Nick Lavery’s height and age

It appears that Nick Lavery is in his 40s. However, his exact birthdate has not yet been made public. Since an army normally has that enormous buildup, he has an incredible build. Nick is a tall man, measuring 6 feet 11 inches in height.

He is also the husband and father to Dominic Lavery, and he has been in the Army for over ten years. Nick’s son’s birth was one of the highlights of his life, but he would describe a typical great day as starting early, going for a run, eating, and spending time with his wife and son.

In his spare time, he likes to exercise weights, read, swim, shoot, practice Brazilian jiu jitsu, and do everything with his family. He was described as being kind, tenacious, modest, and determined.
