On Thursday, Vice Admiral Sanjay Mahindru took over as Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff, succeeding Admiral John Richardson.

On Friday, it was announced that Vice Admiral Sanjay Mahindru is a graduate of the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla, according to an official release. Having joined the Indian Navy on January 1, 1985, he has the rank of Submarine and Navigation Specialist in the service.

His career has spanned more than 37 years, during which he has held a variety of Command and Staff positions, both ashore and aboard ship.

When he was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral in 2015, he took on the positions of Flag Officer Submarines and Flag Officer Maharashtra Area, as well as Chief Staff Officer at Headquarters Naval Forces Command.

According to the statement, after being promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral in 2019, he was appointed to the difficult and coveted position of Deputy Chief of Staff of the Strategic Forces Command.

He has studied at the Joint Services Staff College in the United Kingdom and the College of Naval Warfare in Mumbai, India. The MA (Defence Studies) he received from Kings College, London, and the M Phil (Defence Studies) he received from Mumbai University are among his qualifications.

Vice Admiral Mahindru has taken over for Vice Admiral Ravneet Singh, who resigned from the Navy on March 31 after more than 38 years of distinguished service.

In the Indian Navy, Rear Admiral Sanjay Mahindru is a senior flag officer. On October 17, 2016, he was appointed as the Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area. His efforts to enhance the lives of Veterans and members of the Naval Service began while serving as Flag Officer in the Navy.

Prior to his current position, he held the position of Flag Officer Submarines.

He entered the Navy in 1985 and completed his training to become a submariner.

A submariner with experience in commanding conventional submarines, he just acquired command of India’s first indigenous nuclear submarine, the INS Arihant.

He attended the Joint Staff College in the United Kingdom and graduated with honours.

Aboard the Cadet Training Ship (INS Krishna), he assumed command and ordered her to dock in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
