On July 10, 2007, Trevor Sinclair joined Cardiff City, a Championship squad. On September 24, he made his Cardiff debut in a 4-2 League Cup win over West Bromwich Albion.

Early in the season, Sinclair suffered a knee injury that required two operations to cure, keeping him out until mid-February. He made a comeback on February 16, 2008, when he came on as a late substitution in a 2-0 FA Cup victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Similar to this, he faced Blackpool on April 12, 2008, for the first time since leaving them fifteen years earlier, and scored Cardiff’s second goal in a 3-1 victory, although he chose not to celebrate.
