Review of Tell Me Lies, Episode 4, “A Confusing Affinity”

The fourth episode of Tell Me Lies can now be watched online. The show is based on Carola Lovering’s 2018 book of the same name, which was created by Meaghan Oppenheimer.

In Tell Me Lies, Grace Van Patten plays Lucy Albright. Stephen DeMarco is played by Jackson White, Bree is played by Catherine Missal, Wrigley is played by Spencer House, Pippa is played by Sonia Mena, Evan is played by Branden Cook, Drew is played by Benjamin Wadsworth, and Diana is played by Alicia Crowder. The fourth episode lasts for a total of fifty-one minutes.

Take off your pants and coat, because it’s time for the fourth Tell Me Lies episode.

Tell Me Lies Episode 4, despite what its name might make you think, is mostly about sexual desire and the desires that come with it. Lucy stays with Stephen even though she thinks he is having sexual relationships with other people. Even though she tries hard, Stephen is able to use his manipulative skills to keep her from getting the upper hand in their sexual relationship. This makes her his submissive partner in the end.

Lucy is getting far more emotionally involved than anyone should, and the fourth episode shows this so clearly that you want to yell at her and make her see what she is doing wrong. The viewers can’t stop the strange connection from getting stronger, so all they can do is watch.

In this episode, Wrigley and Pippa’s relationship doesn’t get much screen time, and it’s not clear how they’re keeping such a big secret about Macy’s death under wraps. Bree’s inner turmoil is understandable, and the fact that she really can’t talk about it is important. As for Bree, our virgin queen, she finally gets it over with, but it’s easy to understand the pain she feels inside.

Tell Me Lies’s fourth episode does a good job of setting up the relationships and dynamics that will play out throughout the series. Still, people who have read the book must be disappointed that Lucy’s eating disorder is not a bigger part of the story. However, given Stephen’s work behind the scenes, maybe it will soon be clear on the screen.

Because our main character is closed off, it is hard to figure out what she is going through. One thing that needs more explanation is Lucy’s dependence on Stephen. This is another thing that needs to be made clearer. It’s getting more and more annoying that we don’t learn anything new about Lucy that Stephen and her friends don’t already know. In the long run, a voiceover could help the audience understand what’s going on so they don’t feel too far away from the main character.

The best part of Tell Me Lies Episode 4 has to be the part of the script that talks about Bree, how she lost her virginity, and how she feels about it. Typical depictions of sexuality are usually so over the top that they miss the mark when it comes to being relatable. Tell Me Lies, on the other hand, is able, with Bree’s help, to show the less impressive parts of losing one’s virginity and how sex feels different for different people.

Since the last episode ended on a cliffhanger about how Macy’s photos were accessible on Stephen’s computer, this episode should have focused more on those themes. The death of Macy seems to have been treated as a side issue in this episode, which shouldn’t have been the case given how important it is to the end of the story. But there’s no way around the fact that we need to keep our appetites whetted while we wait for the important explanation.

“Final Thoughts” is the name of the fourth episode of Tell Me Lies.

In general, Tell Me Lies’s fourth episode was well-written and put together. It moved away from Lucy for a little while so that Bree could shine, which seemed like a big deal. In addition, it was possible to emphasize that Lucy and Stephen could be together for a long time, which would prepare the audience for something horrible and devastating. We didn’t drag out this episode by going back and forth between the past and the present, that’s for sure. But if Evan and Bree’s talk had brought up the wedding, it would have been a really touching moment.
