This summary of the sixth episode of “Once Upon a Small Town” has spoilers.

Episode 6 of Once Upon a Small Town starts with a look at Ji-trauma yul’s and how he lost his parents in a terrible accident many years ago. Back in the present, Ji-yul pulls Ja-young from the wreckage in the same way that her father did years before.

Ji-yul watches over Ja-young in the hospital as she lies unconscious. Just as he’s about to take her hand, Sang-hyeon shows up and thanks Ji-yul for helping his friend. Ji-yul leaves the hospital looking sad because Sang-hyeon is there, while Ja-young wakes up from her sleep and tells Sang-hyeon she is fine.

When she asks how he got there, he tells her that Ji-yul told the police about the accident and helped her get to the hospital. He then makes fun of her by saying that she owes the doctor for being kind. Ji-yul leaves without saying anything when she sees how close Sang-hyeon and her are when he helps her out of the hospital and to his car.

At home, Ja-young tries to say thank you to Ji-yul, but she can’t find the right words. While at the peach farm, Sang-hyeon thinks about the time he saw Ji-yul waiting for him in the hospital parking lot. Ji-yul has also come up with his own ideas.

The next day, Ja-boss young’s takes her off the job so she can rest, and she uses the time to thank Ji-yul for what he did the day before. But Ji-yul isn’t at the vet clinic, so she leaves them some popsicles on her way to visit another neighbor. After the events of the last day, Ji-yul went to the columbarium for his parents.

On their way home, Ja-young and Ji-yul run into each other, which is awkward for both of them. After being confused at first, Ja-young starts to thank him for his help, but he has to stop because he gets a very important phone call. As Ja-young looks at Ji-fading yul’s car, Sang-hyeon picks her up, and they go back to talking about the things they did with Majeong. Later, when she brings up what he said about how he feels about her, he asks her in a happy way to think about it some more.

Ji-yul goes to an old man’s house to see how his bull is doing. The bull isn’t doing well, and the man wants Ji-yul to put an end to his suffering by putting him to sleep. The bull hasn’t eaten in a month. On the other hand, when the people of Majeong and Huidong get together that night, a fight breaks out.

People in Majeong call Ja-young uncultured because she doesn’t have parents, but Ji-yul has to make the hard choice of finding the right medicine to ease the bull’s pain and end its suffering. Sang-hyeon does try to help Ja-young, even if only for a short time.

Ji-yul helps the bull cross the road as she walks to clear her head. The old man’s kind words to his longtime friend make the vet cry. Later, the man talks to Ji-yul about his parents, and it turns out that he was the one who took care of Ji-yul when his parents died. They sort of get along because of the bad things that have happened to each of them, and the old man tells them that the people we’ve lost will always come back to us in some way.

The end of Episode 6 of Once Upon a Small Town

But right before Ji-yul leaves, the man says that he used to play with Ja-young when they were kids. This brings back a lot of memories and helps Ji-yul understand things even more. He finds her sitting by the river and thinks back to when they were kids and Ja-young was his friend and helped him get over the loss of his parents.

Ji-yul and Ja-young look at each other as memories of when they were kids come flooding back. They are standing right in front of the place where they used to hang out.

Review of Once Upon a Small Town Episode 6

Well, now that no one is being forced to do anything they don’t want to, episode 6 has turned out to be a very heartwarming episode. Most of the audience was probably waiting for Ji-yul to finally remember Ja-young, and I have to say that I really liked how they brought the story back to him. I almost started crying when I saw that old man with the bull. It makes sense that he knows Ji-yul and his relationship with Ja-young from all those years ago.

Overall, I really liked watching this episode, even though it really made me cry.

Production Team

In August of 2021, Choi Soo-young and Jang Keun-suk were the first two actors to be offered the starring parts in the series. It wasn’t until later in September 2021 that it was discovered that it didn’t actually work. It was decided in May of 2022 that Choo Young-woo would play the role of Han Ji-yul, a native Seoul veterinarian, and Park Soo-young would play the role of Ahn Ja-young, a local police officer, as the two main characters in the series. Later in the month of May, Baek Seong-cheol was added to the cast as Lee Sang-hyeon, an attractive young farmer.

Because the series was filmed in a rural setting and featured animals, the production crew took precautions to ensure that everyone’s safety throughout the entire process, from the creation of the screenplay to the actual filming. They did this by consulting with veterinarians. The entire shoot, which included the participation of animals, took place in the company of a trained animal veterinarian and an experienced animal handler. The production staff divulged the following information: “All props that come into contact with animals were carefully made of silicone to ensure their safety, and anything that could potentially be dangerous was excluded as much as possible.”
