Background

Before relocating to Beijing in 2008 to pursue a career in professional mixed martial arts, Li, who is originally from a tiny hamlet close to Tacheng in the Xinjiang UAR of Northwest China, participated in Chinese wrestling competitions and trained in Sanda. Zhang Tiequan, a former UFC lightweight, was Li’s first trainer.

On October 30, 2021, Khamzat Chimaev and Li squared off at UFC 267. He lost the fight after being rear-naked choked to unconsciousness in the opening round.

On July 16, 2022, Li and Muslim Salikhov squared off on UFC on ABC 3. In the second round, he defeated his opponent by TKO. With this victory, he was awarded the Performance of the Night Bonus.

Tony Ferguson and Li were slated to square off on September 10, 2022, at UFC 279 However, as a result of Khamzat Chimaev’s underweight status, Jingliang will now compete against Daniel Rodriguez rather than Kevin Holland as was the initial plan.
